Online EMDR in the UK
Because you’re not defined by what happened to you or when.
Trauma and difficult experiences or events have happened to you. Even though you’ve struggled, you kept moving forward … you’re strong and have been doing it all carrying the trauma burden. We know PTSD can be treated; trauma burden can be released, regardless of how long ago it happened.
EMDR therapy (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is one of the most effective and evidence-based treatments for trauma, PTSD, anxiety, emotional dysregulation, and more.
At Fly Out of the Box, we offer online EMDR therapy across the UK, supporting clients in London, Manchester, and beyond.

What is EMDR Therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a globally recognised psychotherapy for PTSD and trauma. It’s also highly effective in treating a wide range of challenges.
Conditions EMDR Therapy Can Help With:
Anxiety & panic attacks
Emotional regulation issues
Phobias & OCD
Chronic pain
Depression
Addictions
EMDR Intensive Therapy involves bilateral stimulation (often eye movements) while reprocessing distressing memories.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) and National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recognise EMDR as a proven psychotherapy for trauma recovery.

How is EMDR Different From Other Therapies?
EMDR therapy:
Does not require extensive discussion of the distressing issue
Does not require homework between sessions
Uses bilateral brain stimulation (e.g. eye movements, tapping) to process traumatic memories
Targets both psychological and physiological symptoms
Reactivates the brain's natural healing process
Rewires trauma-affected brain areas
Often requires fewer sessions than traditional therapies
Can be delivered in an intensive format for quicker results

How Does EMDR Work?
EMDR therapy rewires the brain through bilateral stimulation. This technique activates both sides of the brain in a way that mirrors the natural processing that happens during REM sleep.
Understanding the EMDR Process
and Bilateral Stimulation.
When we go through overwhelming experiences, the brain can struggle to process what happened. Traumatic memories may be stored in a fragmented, emotional form, disconnected from our sense of time, language, or logic. This can leave the nervous system in a constant state of alert, reacting as if the danger is still present.
EMDR helps by:
Stimulating both brain hemispheres to enhance memory processing
Desensitising painful or intrusive memories
Reducing emotional triggers and hypervigilance
Strengthening new, adaptive neural pathways
Supporting the brain to integrate trauma as a past event rather than a current threat
Over time, these memories become part of your personal story, no longer overwhelming, no longer in control.
EMDR supports the brain to recognise that the trauma is over, building new, more adaptive neural connections that promote emotional resilience and healing.

Is Online EMDR Effective?
Yes. Research has shown that online EMDR is as effective as in-person EMDR sessions, especially for trauma, anxiety, PTSD, depression, and emotional regulation.
Online EMDR can even be more suitable for some clients, such as:
Clients who feel too anxious to leave home
People who travel frequently and need flexibility
Those who find clinical settings triggering
Busy professionals who struggle to commit to weekly sessions
It takes place in the environment where you feel most at ease, whether that is your home, your office or even a hotel room, as long as the internet connection is stable.
If weekly sessions are hard to fit into your schedule, Online EMDR Intensive Therapy may be a better option. These focused sessions take place over one to five consecutive days and offer faster progress without the need for long-term commitment.
Is EMDR Therapy regulated in the UK?
Yes. The EMDR Association UK is the professional body responsible for regulating EMDR clinical practice in the United Kingdom. Its goal is to ensure and maintain the highest standards for EMDR clinicians and researchers.
EMDR is also regulated across Europe by EMDR Europe, which works through local national EMDR associations.
